An educator for the past 22+ years in the Philadelphia and Montgomery County area, Jacqueline Rocco serves as president and founder of Hispanic Heritage Association also known as HHA. The purpose of HHA is to empower, educate, and develop partnerships and relationships within the Montgomery County region to unite Hispanic and local communities through various forms of professional and educational outlets. Rocco says, “Hispanic Heritage Month for the organization represents all of Latin-America’s countries. We practice inclusivity with all of the organizational programming and events, and we represent all cultures through the commonality of celebrations and traditions.”
Currently, Jacqueline holds two master’s degrees in the field of Organizational Leadership and Multicultural Education and in Afro-Caribbean Diaspora of Latin America history. She was raised in Philadelphia where she attended urban schools and universities. Jacqueline is trilingual: she is fluent in Spanish and English and partially fluent in French. Furthermore, Jacqueline comes from a large family. She is the first in her family to graduate with a university level degree. Throughout her educational experiences, she has noticed a lot of gaps in the educational system. She found herself helping students outside of the school environments to make a difference in their lives. She started to work as a change agent for them in the communities giving them the opportunity to overcome the many daily obstacles the student’s faced.
Hispanic Heritage Month is an important time of the year for her, “there is so much it represents and means to me every year. I like to think about how I would like to see my heritage being represented, especially throughout this important month of celebrations. On the 3rd Friday of Hispanic Heritage Month, HHA proclaims a day during the month to celebrate. This year, we will celebrate it through Salsa dance and instruction and history. It is one of the ways, it is seen through many Latin American countries, like it could be seen in food, tradition and religion and so on.”
During this special month, she wants people to know that, “we are many who represent so many beautiful traditions and cultures. We bring joy and so much change to the way we see life, it is important for the experienced knowledge to be shared and embraced.”
In addition to her work above, she was also appointed to the Governor’s Advisory Commission on Latino Affairs (GACLA) as the first-ever GACLA Commissioner for Conshohocken, servicing Montgomery County. Having served two-terms, Rocco served as an ambassador for the Latino community of
Pennsylvania, advocating for policies, programs, and resources that support their local and
Greater community. Jacqueline is also an active member of Conshohocken Plymouth Whitemarsh Rotary. Along with these platforms, she sits in several communities that serve the Latino community. For instance, PA4PR, Nat’l Puerto Rican Agenda in PA, El Concilio Hispanic Fiesta Committee and New Foundation Charter High School appointed Puerto Rican Initiative Committee and GACLA, Eastwick Solutions.
Jacqueline Rocco, educadora durante los últimos veintidós años en la región de Filadelfia y Montgomery, sirve como presidenta y fundadora de la Asociación de Patrimonio Hispano, también conocida como HHA. El propósito de HHA es capacitar, educar y desarrollar asociaciones y relaciones dentro de la región del condado de Montgomery para unir a las comunidades hispanas y las comunidades locales a través de varias formas de puntos de venta profesionales y educativos. Rocco dice, “El Mes de la Herencia Hispana de la organización representa a todos los países de América Latina. Practicamos inclusividad con toda la programación y eventos organizacionales, y representamos a todas las culturas a través de la comunidad de celebraciones y tradiciones”.
Actualmente, Jacqueline tiene más de dos maestrías en el campo de Liderazgo Organizacional y Educación Multicultural más 30 en la Diáspora Afro-Caribeña de la historia de América Latina. También se crió en Filadelfia, donde asistió a escuelas y universidades urbanas. Jacqueline es trilingüe, habla español e inglés y habla parcialmente francés. Además, Jacqueline viene de una familia grande. Es la primera en su familia en graduarse con un grado universitario. A lo largo de sus experiencias educativas, ha notado muchas brechas en el sistema educativo. Ella se encontró, ayudando a estudiantes fuera de los ambientes de la escuela, para hacer una diferencia en sus vidas. Comenzó a trabajar como agente de cambio para ellos en las comunidades, dándoles la oportunidad de superar los muchos obstáculos diarios que enfrentaba el estudiante.
El Mes de la Herencia Hispana es una época importante del año para ella, “Hay tanto que representa y significa para mí cada año. Me gustaría pensar en cómo me gustaría que mi herencia fuera representada, especialmente a lo largo de este importante mes de celebraciones. El viernes 3rd del Mes de la Herencia Hispana, HHA proclama un día durante el mes para celebrar. Este año, lo celebraremos a través de la danza Salsa, la instrucción y la historia. Es una de las formas, se ve a través de muchos países latinoamericanos, como se podría ver en la comida, la tradición y la religión, etc.”
Durante este mes especial, quiere que la gente sepa que “Somos muchos que representan tantas bellas tradiciones y culturas. Traemos alegría y tanto cambio a la forma en que vemos la vida, es importante que el conocimiento experimentado sea compartido y aceptado”.
Además del trabajo mencionado antes, también fue nombrada miembro de la Comisión Asesora de Asuntos Latinos del Gobernador (GACLA) como la primera comisionada de GACLA para la Conshohocken, que presta servicios al Condado de Montgomery. Después de haber servido dos términos, Rocco sirvió como embajador para la comunidad latina de Pennsylvania, abogando por políticas, programas y recursos que apoyan a su comunidad local y alrededor. Jacqueline es también miembro activo de Conshohocken Plymouth Whitemarsh Rotary. Junto con estas plataformas, ella participa en varias comunidades que sirven a la comunidad latina. Por ejemplo, PA4PR, Nat’l Agenda Puertorriqueña en PA, El Concilio Hispanic Fiesta Committee y New Foundation Charter High School nombraron a Puerto Rico Initiative Committee y GACLA, Eastwick Solutions.
