Early Childhood Center Director 

Position type: Full Time, On-site (8-hour day shift / Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Reports to: Executive Director & CEO

Location: 801 West Marshall Building, Norristown, PA

POSITION OVERVIEW

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced individual to lead our Early Learning Center as the Director. The Director will be responsible for ensuring the health, safety, and quality of education for all children in the center while fostering a supportive and collaborative environment for our team of 22 dedicated professionals. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage the Early Learning Center in accordance with regulations of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania while ensuring legal and financial compliance with regulatory agencies and maintaining a positive accountable relationship. 
  • Work collaboratively with the ED & CEO to establish and regularly update a Policy Procedure Manual to include personnel, health and safety, and other necessary policies for the Early Learning Center. 
  • Seek to attract a student body that reflects the cultural and ethnic diversity of Norristown. 
  • Hire, supervise, and provide training for staff, in accordance with the personnel policies currently in place. Resolve conflicts that may arise and take corrective action as outlined in the employee handbook. Check lesson plans regularly. 
  • Select high-quality curricula appropriate for a pre-school learning center.  
  • Adhere to the STARS program requirements including but not limited to:  Write monthly Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) plans on health and safety, illness, and incidents. 
  • Prepare and reconcile monthly financial reports, track and manage expenses, and handle invoicing and payments to ensure accurate financial oversight. 
  • Oversee and support teaching staff, ensuring adherence to educational standards and fostering a collaborative and professional work environment. 
  • Conduct performance evaluations for all staff members, providing constructive feedback and setting professional development goals.
  • Conduct annual Environmental Rating Scale (ERS) assessments for all classrooms to ensure a high-quality learning environment. 
  • Ensure timely and accurate recording and updating of student information in relevant databases, including Pelican, Teaching Strategies, and Childcare.
  • Establish and maintain a high-quality food program, ensuring that all pertinent regulations are followed. 
  • Maintain student and employee records in accordance with State rules and regulations. Manage administrative functions, including but not limited to financial reports, tuition billing, payments, and purchasing. 
  • Communicate effectively with parents of current and prospective students directly as well as through brochures, news stories, parent handbooks, and other media. Ensures translations in other languages as needed. 
  • Establish a vision for quality for the center. Manage adherence to quality standards in accordance with the vision and with state and local requirements. Maintain quality effectiveness measurements. 
  • Develop general educational curricula; collaborate with staff to develop positive learning activities. 
  • Maintain open communication with parents and guardians, addressing concerns and providing updates on their child’s programs. 
  • Ability to work well with others (staff, children, and parents) and to foster a team environment. 

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Director Credential preferable. If not already acquired, the director must be willing to enroll in a Director’s Credential program. 
  • One of the following: 
  1. A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education, or the human services field and 2 years of experience with children. 
  2. A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, including 30 credit hours in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education, or the human services field, and 3 years of experience with children. 

PREFERRED SKILLS

  • Able to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously and follow through in a timely manner. 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Teams, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint. 
  • Work with a variety of data management using standardized methods and job-related equipment including the ability to enter and track client’s data. 
  • Comfortable working both independently and as part of a team. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills. 
  • Strong communicator, both written and verbal. 
  • Must be detail oriented and possess strong organizational skills.

SPECIAL NOTES

  • Must have and maintain a valid drivers’ license, automobile insurance and daily access to an automobile and cell phone. 
  • This position requires visual and auditory acuity and the physical ability to ascending or descending ladders, stairs, and ramps among other physical abilities. Adjusting, lifting, carrying up or moving objects up to 35 pounds in all directions.  
  • Standing or sitting for prolonged periods, walking, and working on your feet for a minimum of 6 hours at a time. 

 

  • Must obtain the following three clearances:  
  • Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance. 
  • Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check; and 
  • Federal Bureau of Investigation Criminal Background Check.
