Academic Advisor (Part-time 14 hours a week)

Position for School year 2024-2025 (Monday through Thursday from 3:00 PM to 6:30 PM)

ACLAMO Mentoring program is dedicated to fostering the academic and personal growth of students.  Our mentoring program aims to provide individualized support to help each student achieve their full potential. We are looking for a passionate and experienced Academic Advisor to join our team and make a positive impact on the lives of young learners.

JOB SUMMARY

The Academic Advisor will play a crucial role in our mentoring program by providing expert guidance and support to class instructors, developing personalized academic plans for students, and identifying key areas for academic improvement. This position requires a dynamic individual who can effectively communicate with students, instructors, and parents to ensure the academic success of each student.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide Guidance and Advice to Instructors:

  • Assist class instructors in developing effective teaching strategies and educational materials.
  • Offer professional development and training sessions to enhance instructional methods.
  • Collaborate with instructors to address any classroom challenges and support student engagement.

Develop Individual Plans for Students:

  • Assess each student’s academic strengths, weaknesses, and areas for growth.
  • Create tailored academic plans that align with each student’s needs, goals, and learning style.
  • Monitor and adjust individual plans as needed to ensure continuous academic progress.

Identify Areas of Academic Growth:

  • Use assessment tools and data to identify areas where students need additional support.
  • Develop targeted interventions and enrichment activities to address specific academic needs.
  • Track student progress and provide regular updates to instructors, students, and parents.

Student Support and Mentorship:

  • Conduct regular one-on-one sessions with students to discuss academic performance and set goals.
  • Offer guidance and encouragement to motivate students and build their confidence.
  • Facilitate workshops and group activities that promote academic skills and knowledge.

Communication and Collaboration:

  • Maintain open and effective communication with students, parents, instructors, and other stakeholders.
  • Participate in meetings and contribute to the development of program initiatives.
  • Ensure that all academic plans and interventions are aligned with program objectives and standards.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Counseling, Psychology, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Proven experience in academic advising, teaching, or a similar educational role.
  • Strong understanding of the educational needs and development of students.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of instructors, students, and parents.
  • Proficient in using educational assessment tools and technology.

 

PREFERRED SKILLS

  • Experience in developing and implementing individualized education plans (IEPs).
  • Knowledge of current educational trends, best practices, and instructional strategies.
  • Ability to analyze academic data and develop actionable plans for improvement.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.

HOURS

Monday through Thursday from 3:00 PM to 6:30 PM. Part-time position.

Must obtain the following three clearances:

• Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance;
• Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check; and
• Federal Bureau of Investigation Criminal Background Check.
