The ADELANTE Program (named after the Spanish word for “moving forward”) was created in partnership with Bryn Mawr College’s office of Civic Engagement to expand educational opportunities for youth in the Norristown area.
As such, the program is offered free of charge to students who demonstrate initiative and drive and currently serves twenty students in grades 7th -9th. The hope is to maintain a relationship with these students and their parents until high school completion, with the recruitment of no more than ten new 7th grade students each fall.
Facilitated by Bryn Mawr College volunteers, ADELANTE works pre-teens, teens and their parents in encouraging and fostering goals for higher education.
The program offers academically intensive college-prep workshops, exposure to career options, (S.T.E.M.) Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics-oriented activities, leadership and community-building, college campus visits to Bryn Mawr College, as well as fun and educational cultural experiences, such as field trips to the Franklin Institute, the Mutter Museum and the Fairmount Water Works.
